Fox Sports says it has no plans to move away from its sports radio service
Fox Sports is closing its sports channel, Fox Sports 1, which was formerly the flagship network for Fox Sports Radio, the network’s parent company announced on Monday.
Fox Sports will continue to operate its sports-focused Fox Sports 2 and Fox Sports GO, the networks announced.
Fox Sports will also continue to broadcast FOX Sports 1 and its NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL, NASCAR and NBA TV channels.
The move comes as sports broadcasters are increasingly shifting to digital platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.
ESPN, for instance, is moving to the streaming platform for its sports coverage, which includes video content.
The decision to shut down the sports channel was made following the company’s financial woes in recent years.
Last year, the company reported a loss of $1.1 billion for the year ending in March, down from a $2.1 million loss the year before.
In March, it announced that it would stop investing in sports content, including its flagship network, FoxSports.com.
