Aussie rugby league’s next big star is born
Australia’s first rugby league star born in the US is about to make his Australian debut.
Ben Smith was born in Sydney’s north-west, and has been an avid fan of the sport since he was a toddler.
He’s now 14, and is the youngest player to make a debut in the A-League.
“I started watching rugby league when I was eight years old and have been a regular ever since,” Smith said.
“I just wanted to be the best, I just wanted the best.”
You see a lot of the guys you see who are very good, and then you see guys who are good in the NRL and you want to be like them.
“Smith has been around the Aussie game for years, having started his professional career at the age of nine.
He now lives in the south of the country and is keen to return home.”
“It’s been fun, but I just want to come back and be a regular.” “
It’s a fantastic place to live, it’s got great food and good facilities, so it’s been a great experience.”
“It’s been fun, but I just want to come back and be a regular.”
Smith, who has played for the Sydney Roosters, Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory, said he is still growing as a player.
He said it was the first time in his career he was playing against a high-profile opponent, and he was able to get his head around what was happening.
“It was definitely a challenge for me, but as long as I keep doing it, it will be a challenge to me,” he added.
Smith is set to make the switch to the NRL after being drafted into the team for the first-time, after spending last season with the Melbourne Storm.
The Australian Rules Football player has been training with the squad, and it will go a long way in helping him achieve his goals.
His family are also excited about the prospect of the switch, and want to get him to the top level soon.
Aussie Rugby League coach Andrew McFarlane is confident Smith will be ready for the big time.
“Ben is a big talent and a big guy,” McFarlane said.
“He’s got a great head on his shoulders, he’s got the ability to score goals, he can kick goals and he’s also a good athlete.”
He’ll get to the next level, he’ll get his chance, he just needs to keep working hard.
